Tuberculosis

It is a disease that is spread from person to person or through the air. It usually affects the lungs.

What are the symptoms?

  • Feeling weak or sick
  • Weight loss
  • Fever
  • Night sweats
  • Cough
  • Chest pain
  • Coughing blood

How do I know if I have it?

  • Take a TB skin test. If positive, then other tests

Who is at risk for TB?

  • Living close to someone who has TB?
  • Very low-income people
  • People who drink too much alcohol and illegal drug users
  • HIV infection
  • Somalis because a lot of people in Somalia have TB
  • People who have certain medical conditions

What should I do if I have TB?

  • Get required laboratory tests
  • Follow doctors advice
  • Take prescribed medicine for the full time to stay cured
