How do I know if I have a problem?
You may have a problem with depression if you have:
- Feel sad a lot of the time
- Sleep problems, too much or too little
- Low energy
- Difficulty concentrating
- Appetite changes, eating too much or too little
- Loss of interest in activities, hobbies
- Guilt feelings, blaming yourself a lot
- Wishing you would die
You may have a problem with anxiety if you have episodes where:
- You feel shaky inside
- You have body tremors
- Your heart pounds rapidly
- You feel as if you can’t get enough air
You may have a problem with post-traumatic stress disorder if you:
- Think about stressful events all the time
- Have recurrent dreams or nightmares
- Have memory gaps
- Have loss of interest in normal activities
- Have triggers or reminders that bring on these feelings
- Avoid talking about the stressful event
What can I do about this?
- Talk to your health care provider about your symptoms
- Medical treatment and counseling are recommended for these problems
- The responses to traumatic stress are normal and are the result of things that happened to you
